Creative Ideas for 2021!

Welcome to 2021!

We had such a lovely Christmas with the kids. As with most people because of the pandemic, this year was quieter that previous Christmases. But sometimes simple can be just as special. We were able to spend lots of time together instead of filling our schedule with busyness.

But not gonna lie, so far, I’m not loving 2021. Unfortunately, apart from the pandemic, I’ve started the year with some health issues that have been very distracting and kept me away from my what I really want to be doing with my art. Instead of dwelling on the negative, let’s try to find some more positive energy.

When I was a kid, I would often go to my parents searching out something to make. Sometimes, inspiration is hard to find. And now, as an adult, I realize that inspiration comes from creating. The more you create, the more inspiration you have. The more inspiration you have the more you want to create. And the cycle keeps moving.

It can be difficult sometimes to feel motivated and start from standing still. The trick is to always keep moving forward with creativity.

Social media sites such as Instagram and Pinterest are always helpful to get the creative juices flowing. However, it is important to stop consuming and start making your own creations. Actual creating is where the fun is at. This is where the growth happens.

A lot of time when looking at social media sites it is easy to fall into a comparison black hole where you feel inadequate in your own abilities. This can become quite parallelizing. Time to step away from scrolling and get messy.

Why not start 2021 with new drawing habits that will last the year? Here are some awesome sites I’ve discovered to help you develop your creativity, especially, when you are not feeling inspired.

1.

The concept on this site is pretty fun. He starts a drawing for you with some simple lines and it is your job to finish the drawing. It’s a way to develop your creativity and imagination. Brilliant! David Birss also has other free tools on his site including to help with generating creative ideas or story lines.

2.

This site is handy for coming up with illustration ideas. The simple prompts can be refreshed until you find one you want to turn into artwork. You can choose your character, a creature, an environment, an object, a situation and then off you go into a world of imagination.

Now you have no excuses. It is up to you to turn all these ideas into something tangible. Let’s make 2021 the most creative year yet!
